William Hill started a revolution for the sports betting industry, with sportsbooks being unable to offer esports products before this legalization. Sportsbooks were previously allowed to provide individual matches for competitive betting, with full leagues having never been supported. The changes will the recent legalization implemented in Nevada. The most notable esports betting opportunity was held last year with the League of Legends World Championships.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board has enabled three betting options. Those include Match Winners, Head-to-Head, and Future Bets for Seasonal Winners. It should be mentioned that William Hill prohibits in-play betting with esports. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the 1st esports league supported with William Hill. Following this legalization, it’s expected that the F1 Virtual League and NASCAR Virtual Races will also be supported. This extends towards the MotoGP Virtual Grand Prix’s and IndyCar Virtual Races. William Hill was forced to prompt the NGCB to legalize esports betting after physical sporting events were limited worldwide.

Minimal Profits

The goal for William Hill by implementing these eSport Betting Options is to generate minimal revenues, allowing for operational activities not to be limited. William Hill doesn’t want to access additional reserve funds, which have already been inquired once to ensure that employees are paid from home in the United Kingdom and America. It’ll be challenging for William Hill to maximize on available esports leagues, with a large percentage being postponed amidst Covid-19. Notable venues surrounding League of Legends, Overwatch or Fortnite are included in that list. Considering that the eSport leagues taking place today encompass cancelled physical sports, there’s a chance that William Hills expectations could be overturned. Time will tell.
